Oklahoma City School District is planning to spend $50,000 on aptitude tests for school and university students
LNO, Oct 21, 2014 Rob Neu, the Superintendent of Oklahoma City Public Schools said on Monday that the district authorities will pay for Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) of 4,000 high school sophomores and juniors. Besides being a primer for college admissions tests like SAT and ACT, the PSAT is the qualifying test for National Merit Scholarships and a good indicator of a student’s ability to succeed in Advanced Placement courses. PSAT is a standardized test that assesses critical reading, math and writing skills which students will need for college. Neu, speaking at Monday night’s school board meeting, called the assessment opportunity a “game-changer” for students who might not otherwise have access to the test because they can’t afford to take it or don’t have transportation to testing sites. The district will spend $50,040 to test 3,860 students at 11 high schools during the school day Oct. 29, Neu told school board members.
